Billy James Shilling Jr., 73, of Bellmead, went to be with his Lord, Monday, December 28, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family at his son's home in Axtell.

Billy was born November 22, 1947 in Waco and went to South Junior. He was a paint and body man by trade for many years. He enjoyed restoring old hot rods and spending time with his family. He was loved by so many for his happy go lucky attitude and his positive outlook on life. He is known for when asked "Mr. Shilling, how are you today?" He would always say "Well, I wasn't in the obituaries and that makes it a good day!" Every day on this earth was a blessing to him and he taught those around him to never take that for granted.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sally Shilling, son James Russell Shilling, parents Bill Shilling and Oleta Tyler, brother Tommy Shilling, and his grandparents. Survivors include daughter Michelle Shilling, son Billy Shilling III and wife Tracy, daughter Kristine Johnson and husband Jeremy, daughter Ashley Brown and husband Phillip, 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, four brothers Harold Shilling, Marvin Shilling, Mark Williams, and Randy Shilling, and one sister Marilyn Shilling-Trevino.

Special thanks to the staff at Baylor Scott and White Hospice for taking such wonderful care of our daddy during his time of need.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 2-4pm at Bellmead Funeral Home. Graveside services will be on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 11:30am at Oakwood Cemetery. Pastor Joe Bailey will be presiding. Pallbearers include Harold Shilling, Mark Williams, David Shilling, Terry Demas, Billy Shilling III, Jeremy Johnson, Phillip Brown, and Billy Shilling IV.

My sincerest prayers and sympathy for the family of Mr. Shilling. Ecclesiastes offers God's beautiful antithesis of "a time to plant, a time to harvest; a time to sow, a time to reap; a time to live, a time to die." The Book of Job reveals "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away." Psalm 23 assures us that Our Shepherd cares for us and fills our needs. All any of us has is the -dash- between the birth and death date, so may we all know: "What I am is God's gift to me. What I become is my gift to God." It is apparent that Mr. Shilling fulfilled his purpose. God's Grace is sufficient. May God keep you and bless you all, dear family! You are loved!

BJ was not 'just' a State Farm customer; he was a friend, always happy and cheerful. We loved his positive attitude and though we miss him here, we are glad he's in Heaven with his dear Sally.
