Sammye Katherine Poppell, 69, passed away peacefully in her home with her husband at her side on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Sammye was born on July 27th, 1950 in Waco, Texas to Robert and Rita Szanto. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Nana who lived a life of pure love and happiness. She expressed her love through her smile, happiness, and baking.

Sammye was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Rita Szanto, Brothers - Bobby, Willie, and David Szanto Sr, and Grandson - Sammy French Jr, niece Shannon Szanto-McPherson, and nephews Jim and Jerry Woodruff.

She is survived by - Husband Scott Poppell, brother John and wife Azar of Chalk Bluff , brother Randy of Bellmead, brother Bruce and wife Ann of Chalk Bluff, sister Gretchen of Ben Hur, Mother-in-law Liz of San Antonio, daughter Katie of Ballinger, daughter Deanne and husband Sammy of Waco, son David of Waco, son Stephen of Waco, and daughter Jennifer and husband Jason of Gholson, daughter-in-law Vicki, brother-in-Law Alan and wife Jenny of San Angelo, sister-in-law Morgan and husband Ollie of San Antonio, Nana to 16 grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are being held at Bellmead Funeral Home at 3pm January 30, 2020 with a graveside service to follow at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff on Gholson Road.

    Providence Hospice team is sorry for your loss. Our time with Mrs. Poppell was short but we enjoyed caring for her. I'm glad she was able to get out of town and spend some time with her family. She was well taken care of and was loved by many. Thank you for allowing us to meet her and care for her in her last days here with us. Please call if we can do anything for you all.
